The Society for Tropical Ecology (Gesellschaft für Tropenökologie, gtö), founded in 1987, is Europe’s largest scientific association in the field of tropical ecology.

Our annual conference provides an international platform for the exchange of current scientific ideas and helps promote the establishment of collaborations between members and attending guests. The gtö is especially keen to foster junior research and equitable cooperation projects.

Since 1995, the gtö has published its own journal ECOTROPICA, as well as ECOTROPICAL MONOGRAPHS. The gtö is open to all interested persons. Members of the gtö receive the journal ECOTROPICA and the annual newsletter, containing society announcements and details of current projects in tropical research. A reduced membership fee is available to students and unemployed individuals.
